What do I need to be able to access my Mac at home from my work windows machine? Any tips would be great.

Try a search. I'm tired of writing out instructions every time!

Turn on remote desktop in your sharing System preferences, and allow window guests. Then run TightVNC viewer from your pc. That will give the best performance. And all free.
