My Touch is on its way :p

Can you simply copy files to your touch as a mounted drive and if it is, say, a media file, can you play it? Also, can you use it like a memory stick and store any data on for transfer to another machine?

The reason I ask is I don't use iTunes. I've never had a massive music collection although I have loads of radio shows that I prefer to organise myself rather than let iTunes do it. VLC all the way!

^^ Nope! Unless you hack into it somehow, it's not possible...

Oh well. Does that apply even if you jailbreak it?

What can you put on your Touch then? Can you put any non-media files?

If and when it is properly jailbreaked (the current 1.1.1 is very difficult to do so), it is possible to use it as a sort of mass storage device, but it isn't as easy as plugging in a pen drive...

As for getting music on your iPod touch, to play through the interface, you need to use iTunes. I don't think the third party apps can put in music in your library...
