Keyboard Backlight G4 PowerBook "Disabled"?

I try and adjust keyboard backlighting and get the icon popping up with a little circleslash under it. Is there any way to make this at my discression? I went into an almost completely dark room and it still woudln't work, same icon popping up on my screen. Any helps appreciated.

Once again answering my own question (kinda) for any poor Googlers who may have hit this thread answerless.

On the Mac Help Forums, forget the link, a very helpful user pointed me to Lab Tick which is a very nifty program for adjusting backlighting. Works with Leopard too.
