How much RAM for G4 MDD?

PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz (June 2004), 2.5GB, Airport, black 5G iPod 30GB, white MacBook 2.0 2GB
Did anybody of you try if the last Powermac G4 (1.25GHz MDD) can take more than 2GB of RAM?
I mean, Apple says 2GB is the maximum, but they also say that it supports 1GB modules. As it has 4 slots, that would make 4GB.
It wouldn't be the first Mac that can support more RAM than Apple's specification.
Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy 4GB right now, especially not for testing purpose... :(

Hmm, obviously I'm not the only one that can't afford to test this... :D
