burn an iso

From terminal type in "md5 filename"
Or load the .iso onto the desktop - then open Disk Utility - highlight the .iso on the left hand side - Select Images on the menu bar, then select Checksum
Compare the result to the md5sum in the text file to verify you have a good downloaded file.

Disk utility worked fine, but now I'm annoyed. Why didn't the md5 command work with terminal. I was in the proper directory and typed:
md5 ridicuolouslylongfilename.iso
and all I get is a > prompt.

Not sure myself - pretty much gave up the terminal for anything that can be done in the gui years ago unless i just have to go there.
And haven't had to be in the terminal yet, since I got my Mac.
