It depends what kind of mic, if it needs phantom power, and what the connection is (eg. 3.5 mm, XLR, etc.)

Yes, you will need an audio/midi interface. I have just bought the same model for my macbook and logic 8.
Personally i would buy it from a local specialist music dealer, i paid £10 more than scan's price, at Sound Control. The service was great, and they will advise you on which microphone to use.

No, you don't need an interface with all mics. Yes you want one if you're going for quality.

The presonus is nice. Depending on what you want to record, look up an Audio Technica AT2020. Cheap condensor mic with good performance. Great for the price even.

I have a firewire 410 by m-audio and the digi-002. celebrities such as NIN, Rob Zombie, DJ AM and Travis Barker and many more have been on my digi-002:_) If i were to do it again, I would just get a Presonus firebox, it has better mic pre's and is much smaller than the firewire 410
