Quick question from a future switcher.
I have the cash saved for the iMac of my dreams.
Should I buy now or wait for the OS update due out in October?
Any one have any clue when that is expected to roll out?

Also, can you just upgrade to the new release for free?

Thanks!

Many say 5th October but it could very well be 30th of October. I'd wait (cause $129, though cheap, is still a lot of money to me)

At this point, I would wait, but I would assume that Leopard comes out on the last day of the month, and that it doesn't hit the Apple stores for a week or so later. That way, if it comes out earlier, you are happy, but if it comes out per the above, you are not disappointed. In general, plan to wait for about a month if you are planning to wait... and I would.

Apple will announce a release date and it will be available at a specific time on that date. Many Apple stores close early for a few hours only to stay open late on the night of the release. They often give away T-shirts or prizes to the first 50 or 100 folks through the door once they have reopened. I've done it a few times and it's a pretty geeky/cool thing.
