Hi, i was just wondering whether i can make my powerbook's dvd player region free. I cant understand why region locking is still in practice now when 99% of new dvd players are region free.

I don't think so. There are firmware patches that might help you with your problem, but it will void your warrantee and break the player.

Thanks for replying but i still think it's so wrong for all new computers/laptops to be supplied with region locked players.

Maybe the region free DVD players are more prevalent in UK. In US region free players are not really legal.

I agree with you though. DVD region stuff don't really work, and it only creates barriers for the users.

eh...I've never run into a problem with it. (though I'm not importing many DVD's from Japan, either) so it's all the same to me.
