DVDRW burner issues

G4 867 Mhz 768 MB Ram
I've burnt 1 DVD on my new macbook and I had the NTSC/PAL setting wrong, so I've gone back to burn again and now it keeps saying "waiting for burner"....and never goes anywhere. I've tried burning a CD in Itunes and I'm getting the same thing....is it possible this burner is fried already???
