Using an iPod with a USB to Firewire Converter

Im thinking about buying an iPod but my G3 only has 2 USB 1.1 ports and I dont want it to take forever to work but I also have a firewire port, if I managed to find a usb to firewire converter would it work with itunes e.g charge and sync?
