I rented Hot Fuzz this weekend, but my MBP couldn't read it. My cheapo DVD player read it fine, so it's not the disc. Has anyone else had DVDs not run on their Macs or know of any reason why it wouldn't?

I just returned my copy of Hot Fuzz, but it worked fine on my Macbook.

I have read of issues with the Matshita drives that are found in some Macs, but I'v never had an issue with a commercial DVD.

What kind of drive do you have?

I tried the DVD again today and it worked. I don't know why it wouldn't work before. I tried several times. Hopefully the drive isn't going bad. The funny thing is, DVD Player would open, but couldn't play the DVD and the disc didn't mount onto the desktop.

Oh well, hopefully an isolated incident.

From my experience, I noticed that my MBP superdrive would stop reading and mounted after reading a cd for 30 min to an hour. I make music and run samples off my cds that have fair amount of scratches. Just thought id let you guys know.

Could it be a dirty lens? if so how could you clean it?

There are special CDs designed for cleaning the lens in a optical drive, you should be able to get them at most places that sell CDs I believe. The CD has brushes on the bottom, and as you play the CD, it cleans off the lens.

Oh yeah, "Hot Fuzz" was brilliant. I knew I would like it since I loved "Shawn of the Dead". I don't the names of those guys, but they are hilarious! I need to see what else they've made.
