Email issue! Help me Please.

I have an unlocked iphone for t-mobile.


When I try to set up my gmail account on the mail feature using WiFi, it says it cant connect through SSL network so I try it without it(only other option) and that says something about an outgoing field.


How do I get my gmail to work with the mail function?

Also i wanted to know if plugging it to iTunes will relock it???
