i have a HD Camcorder. i was wondering if Apple TV would let me play my HD Vids saved on my Mac on my 50" HDTV in HD?

Yup, you just have to convert it into an iTunes-compatible format and add it to iTunes on a machine that is networked with an AppleTV. Alternatively you can hack it to run aftermarket codecs that will play non-iTunes-compatible formats as well.
