What software do I need to open .rar file?

Hi all

I am new to Macs, just got a .rar file and I don't know what software I need to use to extract it.
Please help, thank you!

Check out an app called stuffit Expander. Its free and its opens .rar files

Zipeg opens RAR and ZIP files. It can handle password protected (encrypted) and multipart archive files.

I'd also recommend BetterZip.

I personally use UnRarX. It's free and has never failed to work for me.

UnRarX or Stuffit Expander. You can't fail with those. I hate WinRar personally.

The Unarchiver all the way!

Looking back at the original post, it seems this thread is almost a year old now. I think the OP's question was asked and answered

Hi, I downloaded Stuffit Expander 13.0, when I expand the file it asks me for a paraphrase and then I don't know were the expander sends the expanded files.

Does any one know? I though files stayed in the same folder as the mother file.
