Does microsoft actually make office for mac or does microsoft give apple certification to make the software for there machines.

Office for the Mac is made by Microsoft. Sold by Microsoft. There is a Mac division right in Microsoft. Apple has nothing to do with it at all or they probably would not have came out with iWork.

Microsoft is the largest maker of Mac compatible software and hardware outside of Apple itself. They make a ton of money off of the Mac market.
