Is there any way I can test the hardware without the need of the disc. I mean software doing it.

Technically the disc IS a software test....

I'm assuming you want a method to test your hardware within OS X itself?

You can do S.M.A.R.T test or Startup Volume test using Onyx and similar software. However, if you need a comprehensive test it is recommended to do it using either Apple CD or Techtool Pro.
