Hi

How can I automatically mark something as Junk, rather than just moving it to Junk.

I suspect that marking it as Junk is important as it lets Mail learn what is Junk and what is not. I have a filter than is setup for example that Moves everything with the word viagra to Junk, but I also want to mark it as Junk so Mail learns that I do not want these mails!

How can this be done? In the Rules section of preferences there is no Mark as, just Move to Junk.

Thanks Jake

We have it set just like that but still it doesn't seem to learn & even classes as Junk mail from addresses in the Address Book. We must be missing some setting here.

Cheers

I have set mine to training now.

Its not learnt much yet, I have it sending all the 'Junk' to a temp mailbox, just n case.

I'll leave it a bit longer and see if it gets any better.

I expected more from Apple!

I left mine on the Training setting for about a week and it's worked fine ever since. It also works better if you build a few rules to help it along. Things like anything not addressed to me directly (the specific address) go to Junk and so on. You can also build rules around key words too. When you send something to junk, the system should remember that and tag any more like it as junk by default.

Also, check the box to trust junk mail headers from your ISP, and then make sure you have junk mail enabler through them. I saved myself a lot of time when I finally turned on the junk mail filter on my e-mail server.

SpamAssassin at our ISP now catches >99% of spam. From hundreds per day now only 1 or 2 actually reach the Mac mail client.
