Safari not displaying HTML

Hey I am having a problem with Safari 2.0.9 For example Gmail works but it won't show the HTML version of it unless I choose it, basically it does not show the page in HTML by default, I need the HTML version since it has some features that I need. This issue also came up in my campuses web page after I log in it is "basic" mode no HTML, no pictures. The funny thing is that in Camino ALL sites work perfectly. Has anyone else had these issues?
