bootcamp on external h-d?

i currently have a black macbook and got around to buying a hard drive enclosure......and i have formatted my hard drive to ms-dos....my question is this can i install and run bootcamp off of the external hard drive.....i figured i can download it and install it to the hard drive and i guess just plug it in when i want windows......is this possible?

Unfortunately, you can't run an OS off an external drive. I don't know specifically why, but I've seen this question come up and be answered before.

One of the functions of Bootcamp is to trick Windows into thinking the Mac firmware is a standard PC BIOS. Its this BIOS that allows booting from external devices and unfortunatley the current version of Bootcamp only allows booting from internal hard drives.

I think you could install it without using bootcamp on an external drive.
