• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Whats is the best way to convert from avi to mp4 on OSX.

I tried iSquint but it does work. I have QTPro but I can seem to figure it out.

I want to use them on my PS3 is all.

Handbrake may do this, but I'm not sure which type(s) of avi files you have (avi is simply a wrapper; these files can be compressed in many different formats, DivX for example). ffmpegx almost certainly would convert these files.

If these are DivX files and you install the DivX codec (free from divx.com), iMovie would probably handle these conversions, as would QTPro.

Are you able to play them in QuickTime?

Handbrake won't work for this.

Yeah, visual hub will work, or VLC Player, check out the tutorial for VLC in the link in my signature, and replace .bin with .avi

True 'nuff... It has presets for the PSP as well as the iPod Video (and several other devices). It has the advantage of also performing selective transcoding of DVD9 to DVD5 video_ts folders too.
