I read about this virtual software app that allows you to run Windows XP apps on intel MACS without having a Windows license/or original CDs, is this as good as VMware or Paral?

It's a bit different than Parallels and Boot Camp. Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on your Mac, giving you the option to boot into either operating system. Parallels allows you to run Windows simultaneously with OS X on a so-called virtual machine. Crossover and DarWINE are a set of tools that, in a manner of speaking, "trick" your Mac into running some Windows software directly on OS X. It can be very hit-or-miss, and many times there can be graphical and functional glitches when running Windows programs whereas with Parallels or Boot Camp, you are actually running Windows on your Mac so most everything that runs in Windows will run on them.
