Nah, they've very rarely backported features of new iPod to the old ones...

I won't be too long before someone tries to flash the new firmware on old hardware to see if it works. We'll just have to wait for some brave soul to try it.

The 5G uses portalplayer chips, while the classic uses Samsung/Apple custom chip, so highly unlikely. Apple didn't even bother to put gapless on the 1G nano even though it has the same chip as the 5G (which luckily got gapless playback).
