CD multiplayer won't play/Burn some music CDs

Has anyone ever found that when trying to burn a music CD that the cd player gets through maybe one or two songs and then starts scrlurching and groaning and then hangs and you have to force quit iTunes to eject it? I had this problem with a couple of my older CD's but was able to burn them and play them with no problems on my new LaCie external DVD Writer. Maybe it's because I was trying to listen to them at the same time. Or maybe not.

I noticed I got coasters if I moved my mbp around while burning, seems obvious but it was more sensitive than I had thought it would be. Also my drive doesn't burn well to cheap cd-r's. I use mainly tdk or sony cd-r's and haven't had a coaster yet.
