Free ringtones FROM iTunes! So fast, so easy.

Sorry for yet another ringtone thread, but I just spotted this on Crave and figured anyone with an iPhone would be interested. Since I don't have one myself, someone will have to try it and see how it goes.

Kudos fleurya!!!!!

I'll admit to not using other ringtones. The iPhone actually has a ringtone that sounds like a real (re: older) phone. I hear it and pay attention to it. Most everything else I've learned to ignore. I have very good hearing, but people used to tell me when my old phone was "ringing" because I just didn't pay attention to it.

Apple seems to like to help their customers...easy ringtones, fairly easy to hack the iPhone (simple directory structure etc.) and so on.

Just an fyi, Apple has already released a 7.4.1 update which stops that ease of making ringtones.

I wonder if this will wipe out any ringtones you made this way. I suppose you can just hold off on updating until forced to for some reason.

EDIT: Just read on Engadget that previously renamed filed for ringtones that have been transfered to your phone will still work. So, load up on ringtones before you update folks!!

LOL! Awesome. I wonder how long it will take Apple to shoot out another update. This has to be some kind of record for issuing updates.

I tried the workaround, and my iPhone doesnt recognize that there is the ringtone there. Any ideas?

the workaround is kind of touchy, every step must be precise i think.

I do have on problem though, I can't find a song that sounds good, the speakers sound HORRIBLE. is this just me? Can it not handle bass?

OK! here is the fix for everything...
haha

in iTunes - drag the song you want to garageband, click on the (i) in the lower right corner to open up track info.
Click equalizer and remove bass boom
then - above that bass reduction and Remove bass

cut the song to desired spot/length/etc

export to itunes

Convert selection to AAC

drag AAC clip to desktop

DELETE the one in the itunes library (right click delete, remove from library)

now rename the file on your desktop to .m4r
right click, name and extension, make sure it is .m4r not ".m4r.m4a"

double click (nothing should start playing, should seem like nothing happened)

go to
macintosh hd > music > itunes > itunes music > ringtones
change the extension back to .m4a

sync iphone

sounds MUCH better w/o bass
and i have found when i do anything different in these steps it doesnt work.
