New imac not reading DVDs

Had my new 24" imac for just 15 minutes now and hit first problem. It will not play my UK DVD's and gives me a error message saying that they are the wrong region code - but I'm in the UK. Has my new imac been configured wrongly? What can I do about it?

I'm assuming that this happens when you open the DVD player App?

You assume correctly!

I would take it back, it sound like your system has been set for another region. With it being new it should ask you to set the region code.

Sorted. Apple support came to the rescue. We were trying to play it through Front Row and we should have simply let it play with DVD player when the first thing it does is to initialise the DVD region.

All new Macs come with US region set as default.

You need to set it to regio 2, as you've aready discovered.

I believe the default is no region is set.
