Is there a way to scan my DVD+RW to see if it is defective? I can burn files to it but I get a DISC ERROR message when playing it on my external DVD player. It has worked in the past so I think that it has become defective.

Thanks,

Chances are it's not the drive, but the media. Cheap, no-name media can be troublesome in certain types of devices. Set-top DVD players are notoriously picky about certain types of media - especially DVD-R vs. DVD+R. Try TDK, Verbatim or Imation for top quality media that tends to be more compatible between different devices.

I also use DVD-R because there are more older set top DVD players out there.
