Adium - Adding contacts

on the bar at the top go onto contacts and select add contacts and then fill in the information..... or you could press + D

On my contact list i can only see my msn contacts. someone on my yahoo list just sent me a message and i can talk to them but i dont see them on the contact list.
how do i see other IM service friends on the contact list?
