problem with camera connection

Hi all, I have this problem: when using Final Cut, I try to log and capture but the program freezes, then I disconect the camera and the program resume working and the capture window opens,it indicates that there is no connection to camera, I reconect the camera and the program freezes again.
I alredy tried a different cable but no results. The thing is that every time I connect the camera, the app doesn't works. Any idea?

I went to a mac store with the computer and the camera, everything worked fine when I was there. I was questioned about my connections and there was the problem.
Camera to computer's firewire 400, external hard drive to computer's firewire 800.
Powerbook have only ONE firewire bus, so you can't use both ports at the same time. Too bad.

I would have thought that PB had enough horse power to handle both over the same bus.

You have two options;
1. Capture to the internal drive.
2. Buy a firewire PC card for the slot and use that as a second bus to the drive.

Thanks, I will look for that PC card. does it have the same speed? because when I download pictures from a Compact Flash card trough the pc card adapter it is slowest than connecting a card reader trough USB.

I used one to download video to an older laptop with success, so I'd say it can handle the speed fine.
