One thing to check before you put too much into it is to see if it's a Revision 1 or Revision 2 motherboard. The rev.1 has a buggy CMD IDE controller chip that has issues with certain hard drives and running 2 hard drives. I have had nothing but problems with REV 1 B&W's.
This URL will show you how to tell. You look for 401 on the CMD IDE Chip.

This will tell you the specs and RAM info.

Yes you can do that but the IDE card is not really cheep and you are throwing all that $$$ into a machine when you are finished with 2x AGP, a 100Mhz Bus. Put in a really fast CPU and the slow bus chokes it. Ask Baggss about that sometime. If it's a REV 2, first thing is upgrade the RAM. PC100 256Meg Dimms. It will take 4 of them for 1GB.

Yea, that processor is $300. I bought my MDD for $400. They sell for $300 to $700 on eBay. You could pick up a single 1GHz machine for $300-$400.
Upgrading an old machine will not be as good as buying one that's stock. With the b&w white you will be stuck with the bottleneck, slower RAM, slower video card, etc...
I recommend buying the fastest base Mac you can afford and start upgrading RAM, HD's, whatever when you get more $.

i have the rev 2, sorry, forgot to mention that.

ok, so i looked at the lowend mac site, and it answered some of my questions. 128gb drives are the largest i can put in, thats ok, i'm cool with that. 1gb is the max, awesome, doable. however, i still cant seem to find an exact answer to whether or not the g4 proc will work with my b&w.

as far as buying a faster mac, i'm currently working on a zero dollar budget, so whatever i can find is basically either in trade with friends or an occasional ebay part.

There are 3.

Another.

Also, I did a big Opps earlier in this message. I said AGP 2x. The B&W is PCI only, no AGP for the video card.

i'm liking the fastmac site, not a bad price i suppose.
i like that powerlogix even more
sadly i have no idead when i'll have the cash for that.

so then if i was able to get a g4 chip, it would work, or at least that is the impression i am under. is this correct?

also wanted to add, i will be happy to just upgrade this one, as all i do anyway is internet, music, vids, and a couple games.

Those G4 upgrades are designed for your G3 B&W so yes, they will work.
