TheTrueMoron, WIndows tells you how fast the link from the computer to the modem is, not the actual internet connection speed. That is governed by the modem at the other end of the link from your modem, but if your on cable or DSL, yeah, the numbers look a little weak to me. Should be at least twice of what they are in your test.

Well i've had 9mbps for a while, but I'm getting sick of the slight lagness and low performance on games so I'm getting either 30 or 50. I also need unlimited or like 100GB download. I eat up download so fast and pay through the nose for overdownloading.

I'm surprised at how many people still use dial-up. I really thought it was a thing of the past. I got cable like 8 years ago. I remember the friday night internet and the annoying noises and the phone fighting.

2015 Retina 4K iMac. Monterey. 8GB RAM. Crucial 500GB external SSD
if I had to use dial-up I would not even bother having internet.

I have dsl. 730 kbps down, 131 up .... it's $14.99 a month for life. I like the price.

just to keep things in perspective here the preferred units of measure internet providers is Kb/s, that is bits per second.

sometimes you see KB/s and this references bytes per second
a typical mp3 file is 3 MB so expressing things in bytes gives you a better idea but the marketing department at your internet provider sees numbers 8x lower.

another thing is there is a huge difference (~10x) between up and download.

some internet providers use a burst mode thus your connection will respond well to short requests, like internet speed tests.

i typically see on my cabl acc:
200KB/s for downloads but could go as high as 490KB/s
45KB/s for uploads, its capped
$50+ per mo

$40/mo eh i guess its good enough. better than $60/mo with earthlink.

Ripped off?

It's supposd to be 30mbs down and 600kbs up, but the last test brought it in at only 9mbs download. I'm being ripped off!
Well I am paying for 20K download and getting 7727 download from
Fios but I cannot complain as the Verizon tech hooked up to the
modem they gave me is getting 20K.
Now what?
