Hey guys I own this hard drive I was wondering if it would be even possible for me to get a 16 ft. long USB cable and put this thing in my closet and have it auto shutdown when I sleep/turn off my computer and to startup again when it wakes from sleep or starts up. The reason I want to do this is the HDD is a little loud, not too bad but if I could do that it would be great!

The cord length shouldn't be a problem and the drive should shut itself down after a long period of inactivity; at least my WD My Book drives shut themselves down. If they don't maybe you could just unplug it yourself or dismounting the drive might cause it to shut down.
