Your Mac's Specs
MBP : 2.4GHz : 2GB RAM : 256MB VRAM : 160GB HDD
Providing you have a wireless access point (BT Home Hub for example), then yeah all you need is a wireless card.

As for what will work, that's tricky to say. Your best bet is looking on eBay for Mac compatible cards as the manufactures normally don't mention compatibility. I got a D-Link card from PC World that worked, but that was more luck than judgement. Ralink provide drivers for their chips, but finding out which products have their chips in them is harder (I only found out my D-Link card had one of their chips in after I bough it).

As for Apple Wi-Fi cards; I would guess your Mac uses the older AirPort card (although I couldn't say without a model description). These haven't been made for awhile so you have to pick them up second hand for inflated prices, and they only work at older 802.11b speeds.
