Hey,

My brand-new PB 17" battery never charghes 100% - it is always on max. 99%, even if it is plugged in the power outlet for a few hours.

Any idea why it it s happening and whether it's normal or not?

Thank you.

p.s. For those who interested - yes, I did the battery calibration according to Apple's instructions.

I expected my post would AFFECT you in such a way....

The intended EFFECT was not for me just to say "haha I am correct" but to enlighten you on a commonly confused set of words.

Try running off the battery, get it less than 94%, then plug in the power adapter. I know on my thinkpad it will not charge the battery until it is less than 95%. I don't know if this is true on the Apple laptops. I just do it with my powerbook.

rman, that is true. Usually, my PowerBook will not charge unless it is at 92% or lower.

Yes thats true rman. The battery on PBs charge only if it dips below 95%.

But 100% is not important, mine always charges upto 99% and stays there. Its not an issue.

mine always says charged

I heard somewhere though, that it will never say 100%..it will always say 99%

Mine always shows 99%....

- but I don't remember the exact conditions for this..it might have been after so much time, or something...who knows?

Does this have anything to do with having Airport on?

On my friends G3 iBook, when the battery is at 0%, and you plug it in with airport on, it does not charge!

I posted about this a while ago on the Swither Hangout. Essentially the battery only charges once it drops below a certain amount. If its out by 1% it doesn't charge so as to extend the battery life. Would I be right in saying that the battery life would be greatly reduced if the battery was to constantly recharge? If so then that would be the answer.

Although its nothing that should cause great concern. :)
