I just bumped my RAM up to 3Gb. I understand that memory performance is maximized with matching SIMMs. Considering that the iMac can only access 3Gb of RAM, would I notice any difference if I had 2Gb SIMMs vs the 1Gb and 2Gb that I have?

cheers

Using 2GB (2x1GB) will make your machine faster. But using 3GB (2GB+1GB) will allow you to run more programs, albeit a little slower.

Thanks goobimama, I understand that point. I was specifically interested in the performance difference between 2Gb + 2Gb vs 2Gb + 1Gb.

(Before the upgrade I was running 1Gb + 1Gb.)

Oh you got the new iMac supporting upto 4GB? Cause right now maybe Tiger can't address the full 4GB, but when leopard comes out, its gonna be 64 bit and will address all that memory. 2GB + 2GB is a definite winner as 2GB + 1GB will run in single channel mode...

I've got the older iMac that only supports 3Gb.

So where does the question arise of using 2GB + 2GB. I don't understand. I don't blame you. I've been called dumb before...:)
