I don't know if this will fix your problem but a guy in another post went to hsi library folder and then trashed his fonts folder and then restarted. I'm assuming that erases all fonts but the system fonts.
Im having serious font issues awell... has anyone said that the method above works?... Im a resident graphic designer and my boss owns my computer, so i dont want to do something that will cost hours of patching up.
Move the fonts out of your user fonts folder, maybe to the desktop, and see if the problem persists. Don't forget to restart or logout/login.
If it fixes it, you have a bad font. If not, it might be a corrupt system font.
You might be able to fix it using Fontbook.
