copy a dvd or cd

how do I make an exact copy of a cd or dvd.

With Windows I would use nero, im sure there is a built in apple alternative.

Please advise

As long as there is no Copy Protection (Which is not allowed to be discussed here on the forums for legal reasons), get Roxio Toast. It's the OSX equivalent of Nero on Windows. You can make a disk image in Disk Utility and burn it to another CD/DVD but to me Toast is so much easier and handier.

Im only refering to cd's or dvd's that may be coppied, can u explain how to make a disk image in Disk Utility?.

What is a disk image.

Is disk utility the progrom that I find under - Finder: Utilities: Disk Utilities.

Please walk me through the disk utility process, as when I open disk utility all I see are repair like functions

I don't remember the exact steps, but it's something like this:

1. Put the CD or DVD disc into your Mac
2. Launch Disk Utility
3. In the top menu, go to File > New > Disk Image From...

Then choose your optical disc and make the disc image.
