Where are my files?

Well hello.

I've just imported a lot of footage using iMovie and can't seem to find where those files are independently of iMovie. Can you help?

Do you mean the file is visible in iMovie? But you can't find it in the Finder? If so, it should be in your Users/Movies folder.

Sherman is correct. Users/Movies. That is the default save location for iMovie.

Thanks but I still can't find them. Are you referring to the 'Movies' folder on the sidebar for Finder because they don't seem to be there.

Actually I can find the imovie file in this folder but clicking it only opens imovie. I want to be able to see the footage/ files without opening imovie.

Any ideas?

Have you gone to File/Export in iMovie and exported it as a Quicktime Movie?

Ah, no I haven't. Ok well that sounds like a plan.

If you are looking for the individual clips. They are contained inside the iMovie project file. The previous version of iMovie you control clicked on the project file and then select open package contents. The clips are located in the media folder. As for the latest version of iMovie, look for the iMovie events folder and look inside. The clips are the .dv files.
