old mini-dvi vga adapter?

hey guys, i have an issue! i spoke to my tutor at uni about a mini dvi to vga cable and he bought one for me, but it doesnt connect to my macbook :Angry: im guessing its an adapter thats only compatible with older macs?

has anyone got a closeup pic of the mini dvi end of the cable i need to connect to my macbook, so i can be sure i get the correct one? :)

Your Mac's Specs
iMac Core Duo 20", iBook G4, iPhone 8GB :)
The one for the iBook doesn't work with the newer Macbooks/iMacs...
