It there any way to measure what speed you actually are achieving with the WiFi-connection between the Base station and the laptop?

try www.rioplexwireless.com
i get 1.27 Mbps from my netgear wirless 108G router and my macbook pro.
"Your current bandwidth reading is:

1.27 Mbps

which means you can download at 162.36 KB/sec. from our servers"

but when i download an app i get more then 162 i get around the 360 kb/s mark( see image)
try downloading something and see what you get

Thanks, but I was more thinking about the wireless speed from the Base station, disregarding the broadband speed. It would a measurement of at what speed can I transfer some thing between two computers on the network or to an external HDD in the network.

So can the wireless transfer speed be measured independently from the speed of the broadband connection?

Yeah, thanks. It gives an approximation but it only shows what is being transferred and if you have it open it mostly shows 0 k/b s if nothing is coming through. I guess you can see the maximum speed if you download a website and open iStat.

It wold be neat though, to have something that just measures the speed that you are achieving but maybe that does not exist. (Or maybe I am just being difficult......).

Try moving a 2GB file while it's open. You'll get a decent idea of what the "real" transfer rate is. Just a thought. :)

I hear ya. I did the 2GB file thing when I was trying to see if my wireless APE n was any faster in the real world than g. I was much faster,
