• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Ok, so my next project is to start editing videos I have....(some vids of my playing music, etc)

Can I do this with iMovie?

Let's say I have a 10 minute video clip....and I only want the last 5 minutes in the file that I will upload to my site....how do I do this?

Also, what are some good softwares to create DVD Menus, softwares for video editing...etc....

I realize I can make dvd menus with iMovie or whatever, but I am thinking something a little more professional.

Well, iMovie 08 or iMovie 06 should be able to handle most causal video editing you need.

It's a little more complicated now with iMovie 08 out though: It takes a different approach to editing than iMovie 06, so if you have them both, make sure you try both versions to see which one fits your head better.

The next step up would be final cut express.

iDVD is really flexible and great for prosumer grade DVD menus. The results look really polished, much better than the stock image menus you get with most video authoring packages.
The next step up is DVD Studio Pro, but that's really for serious work (think Hollywood :)).
