New mac owner quick questions

Hey guys, i just got back from the mac store and im happy i decided to get a mac. Few questions, first thing i did was install firefox... I dragged the shortcut to the dock, however what up with the shortcut that was put on the desktop? What exactly is this? Whenever i hit eject on it, then i start firefox from the dock it just comes back.... How can i make it so it not their?

2nd. Is their a way to move the minimize, close, ect to the right.

3. In the Dock there is a symbol that looks like this:

Addenda to the above post:

1. Yeah, looks like Firefox was not installed properly.
Quit Firefox, then do the steps in the pictures posted above.

2. Nope. Um... use a mirror? ;p

3. Also, you can use F12 (default key for Dashboard).

If you are using the new ultrathin Apple keyboard it is F3.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

It's F4 actually. F3 is Exposé (All Windows).
