Since I am switching from a PC to a Mac, I don't know what messenger to use. I used an old version of AIM before along with DeadAim. I really don't like iChat so I was wondering if there are any other programs to use.

What does everyone on here use?

I use Adium, which can be found on www.versiontracker.com, as well as other cool pieces of software.

Other famous ones are aMSN, Fire, and Mercury Chat.

... I am switching from a PC to a Mac... I really don't like iChat...

If you are switching from a PC, when have you used iChat before? I just recently switched and I always used the latest version of AIM. When I got my Mac my friend told me that iChat was much better and, quite frankly, it is. I am just curious, what do you not like about iChat?

i am just really picky. i don't really like the blue bubbles in the conversation. :-/ and also how it sorts my buddy list. its dumb, i know, but i have just never really liked it. i am sure there are settings you can change and what not, but i think i will try out adium for a while.

Adium is great. I use it most of the time. But it has 3 flaws which I really don't like. Doesn't say when phone msn users go offline. Can't save others custom emoticons easily like in msn. Can't be in more than one multi person chat. Aduim doesn't recognise it.

But apart from those things Aduim is great. When I need those features plain old msn it is for me.

I just got my Mac today, and I downloaded Adium....I normally use MSN on Windows, with Adium, can I change my name? It always appears as either my full name or my e-mail, which isnt cool! How can I change this?

#2 and #3 are things that I also don't like. (never messaged people on their phones, so I can't really say for #1 ;p )

For me, there's also another one: personal messages (the "2nd nickname") are not supported yet.

In the Contact List, double-click your name.

Kinda really obvious and really hidden at the same time, eh? ;p
