Could someone tell me the keys to press to take a screen shot of something?

15" MBP 2.0 GHz, Core Duo, 2 GB Ram
Go to /Accessories/Utilities, and start Grab.

Then in the top bar, click on Capture, and it will let you click and drag to highlight what you want to capture. Then you can save it, copy and paste it, whatever you want.

It also shows you the key combo if you want to use that.

the keys to press to take a screen shot are -

"shift, command (apple) and 3" - this takes screenshot of entire screen
"shift,command and 4 " - shows a crosshair which you can click and drag around specific part.
