Hi

First post here, thanks to my iMac that should be on its way shortly. Mac newbie here :)

I want to be able to watch TV on my iMac, a friend told me that it has no input for such things. It has an output to projectors but not input? Is this correct, can I not just use a USB Tuner?

I read the Elgato Tuners are good, would I be wise buying one of those? I am in the UK if that makes any difference.

Finally, my Wii, can I connect that to my iMac and use it like a TV? I suspect this is not possible because there is no input for SCART, etc.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Your Mac's Specs
20" iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz, 500GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 128MB ATI Radeon X1600
TubeStick is a good TV tuner for Mac.

There are adaptors for input, but I hear they are pretty slow response time.

If you buy the El Gato EyeTV Hybrid USB stick tuner, I believe it advertises "zero-latency" for video game system inputs. You need to have a CPU capable of handling the encoding though, as there is no hardware encoding done inside the EyeTV. The stick runs $150 on Apple.com/store, and comes packaged with a "breakout" cable that allows for multiple inputs for recording from a DVD player/whatever, and allows use of the Mac's screen for a video game console.

The encoding, is that going to be a problem? Or is it feasible that the iMac can cope with it?

Look go to newegg.com now and buy a EyEtv Hyrbid now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815131003
It costs $129.99 USD. Great device i play my xbox on it and there is absolutely no lag at all. The recording is great and you can even remote schedule through TITAN TV. Lets say you are off and cant get home to catch the soccer game. Get access to the internet and remotely schedule the program you want to watch then Eyetv will wake up your computer and record it.

That sounds awesome, is the hybrid the one with digital and analog, or is the Hybrid bit something completely different?
