Are there any advantages to either program or does it just come down to personal preference?

I think Parallels must be better because VMware is just a 1.0 app and Parallels is in 3.0, however I have no experience with either.

First, this is completely in the wrong forum...it should go in the Windows forum.

Second, search is your friend :). This question has recently been discussed at length in that forum.

Allow me to move this for you.

Version numbers are not connected to quality in any way.

I've had better experience with Parallels, but others have the opposite experience. If it makes any difference, Parallels support is abysmal. Like schweb says, this has been discussed at length.
