Have any of you here ever heard of people meeting on a forum or chat room and starting a business? It's something I've recently been thinking about..
Imagine the potential of 15 people starting something, rather than one or two.

I've never heard of a legitimate business being started on a forum. I've seen a lot of spammers offering work-at-home get rich quick schemes on forums though. I'm thinking that you'd have to know the people on the forum pretty well before actually starting a business with anyone though.

That's true.
Still, throwing ideas around on a thread or IRC, you never know what kind of collective plans/ideas may come up

Maybe a good idea to think first of:

- how do you pay it all?
- Why do you trust them?
- Can they trust you?
- Which group will be your customer?
- Will they EVER buy something from you?
- Will you be able to compete with the big guys on the market?
- What about laws?
- Who will do all the administration?
- Will you ever make profit?
- If yes, who will get it?
- If no, who pays all the bills?
- Are you still interested? :p

Personally I don't think anyone could start an online business from a forum just from those reasons you so specifically mentioned, there's not a good trust level.
