Hi
I'm basically looking between;

macbook pro with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128MB

or

Imac with ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB

which of the two would prove better? would the the extra 128mb on the Ati pushes it farther than the 128mb Nvidia?

I'm speaking purely in term of graphic card aspect, not processor or else

thanks

What are you planning on using the computer for?

That would ultimately decide which graphics were better suited.

Some low level resolution 3D modeling and animation, a bit a video editing, the rest all web stuff.

thanks

Your Mac's Specs
20" iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz, 500GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 128MB ATI Radeon X1600
Then they will both do fine.

Get whichever is cheaper as performance will be roughly the same

Well, the general rule of thumb is if you are doing any sort of 3D modeling, the more VRAM the better.
It wouldn't make much difference for the video or web stuff, but you will see a much smoother flow with respect to your 3D work.
You will also want to up the system RAM for the video and 3D stuff.
Between those two machines, I would go for the iMac and get at least 2 GB of system RAM put into it.
