The decision has been made, the deed is done. My current MacBook is all but a gonner.

My NEW MacBook however, is on order. :D (Whew.)

Sweet! That'll be nice, you get the new chipset and Leopard pre-installed.

Was this Apple that decided in changing your ailing MacBook or did you decide to buy another one?

Anyway, at least you'll have a brand new MacBook to play with now. :D

Edited to add:

DOH! Just saw your thread in the Sell/Trade forum, so you are selling it. Never mind... :D

Apple did nothing, though legitimately they really couldn't do anything. My MacBook worked fine in the store for a whole half hour.

It was actually my wife who pushed me. Life has been whimsical of late, and time has been sufficiently tight that she just said to do it. She cringed at the thought of me going back to a Linux or Windows machine, in part because I really hate Windows and have only a limited friendship with Linux. She also knows that I get really angry at computers when they don't work right, which means I'm forever complaining about those other machines. In part her pushing was for her peace of mind and our happy home. ^_^

It is funny that after this time with my MacBook, this is still the right machine for me. If money was no object, I might prefer a MBP, but I don't actually need the extra capabilities. I can do everything I want either with or through a MacBook.

I never go for a first generation computer: it always seems to me there are a great deal of bugs to iron out so by getting this newer MacBook, you might end up with a better product anyway.

I really hope it all goes fantastically well with the new addition, MO. :)

This is kind of after the fact and all, but my wife's Macbook (second gen) developed a flicker that happened fairly infrequently, but definitely occurred. As with many things with her computers historically, she lived with it and didn't tell me about it so I didn't know about it until I observed it personally. It happened when her screen automatically dimmed when idle. I informed her that this was not normal and indicative that it might fail, and we should take it to the genius bar to be fixed before the warranty was up.

Naturally when actually at the genius bar I was unable to have it happen to demonstrate to the genius, but he informed me that they have tools that, if this was a bad inverter, they can use to invoke the behavior. They took it in, and three days later I picked it up with paperwork showing that they replaced the inverter.

So perhaps your genius bar isn't as well equipped as mine? Who knows. Hopefully your new Macbook will give you less flawed service, and whoever gets your old one will not suffer the flickery wrath of the LCD gods.
