I bought a new hard drive for my 13 mac book. I put it in the computer correctly but when I go to install OS X on it (off my CDs) it isn't recognizing the hard drive. The hard drive shows up in the disk utility program. What must I do to install OSX?

I had the same problem. I had to boot the disk into disk utility mode, the format the drive before my macbook would recognize it. Sorry, but I don't remember how i did it. There is a way to boot off the cd right into utility mode.

I think that once you boot from the DVD, there should be in the menubar an item that launches Disk Utility to reformat the hard drive. Choose HFS+ (OS X native format).
