is there a default image editing program like paint or that linux one? is there a free one i can download?

Yep, there's quite a few. The one that most closely matches MS Paint is PaintBrush. ArtRage is really cool too. Not to mention The GIMP, which is close to Photoshop in functionality.

MacBook: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1 GB Memory
I like Seashore for quick and easy editing, however if I want to get a bit more into it, the Gimp is definately a good choice
